💡

The goal of my project is for me to learn the basics of 3DS Max for home design. 3DS Max is "a computer graphics program for making 3D animations, ,models, games, and images." I'll be following a Skillshare class. The focus of the class is a tutorial on how to design a bedroom.

What do you want to get out of this project?

💡

I really would like to get a good idea on the basics of using this type of software. I was able to tour New York School of Interior Design, and I noticed that they had a large computer lab devoted to this type of design software. I would like to become familiar with it.

where did the skills go? we are taking skills out of the idea generation process, in an attempt to make projects more career-focused. If you want to get leveled-up for a project, share it with the appropriate guide or faculty member for feedback upon completion.

Exploration

Use this space to take notes, keep track of your sources, or conversations you have with people about this project.

  1. Choose a relevant Skillshare class:

Create and Design a Modern 3D House in Blender 2.8 -This was not realistic enough and not as user friendly as I was hoping for.

3DS Max +VRay : Modeling Projects for Advanced Architectural Interiors- Too advanced.

3DS Max for Beginners: 3D Modeling Fundamentals- This instructor built all of his furniture from scratch, and his teaching style was difficult to understand. The interior looked like an office instead of a home.

Create Photorealistic Interior Renders with 3 DS Max, Vray, and Photoshop: I loved how realistic his rendering was. I'm not sure if he teaches the basics, but my plan is to try to supplement his teaching with YouTube videos to cover the basics that he might skip over.

2. Get software:

Student ID needed, provided by Sora. VRay is not free for students, so I am looking into using my student budget for this.

Reflection

Reflect on this project cycle by answering the questions below.

The act of reflecting allows us to pull out the big takeaways that we'd like to remember from this project to make recalling them easier.

What are some of the most interesting discoveries you've made working on this project?

✨

I realized that it wouldn’t take too long for something that I thought would take at the minimum two months for my first time to make something so detailed and realistic.

What extra resources would be helpful for this project in the future?

📚

The Skillshare class I was taking had the 3D models (furniture) linked below the videos, but these links would not work so I had to find my own 3D models. This was probably one of the hardest parts.

🌹 What did you enjoy most about this project? 🥀 What didn't go well in this project? 🌱 What will you do differently next time?

🌹

When the software started to render the final image it was really exciting.

🥀

Not too much really. At the beginning of the project it was a little stressful not knowing what tools I need for this project.

🌱

I would add more light to the final render, it was a little darker than I would have liked.
