Checkpoint 1:
Generate at least 3 project ideas
List 3 topics you're interested in exploring more deeply. You're going to be spending the next two weeks working on this project, so make it something you're curious about. Modifications: Since my project involves mainly designing things with pre-set parameters, I am going to list ideas for subsystems that I need to design
- Flywheel disc shooter
- Tiny compliant wheel conveyor transfer
- 3 Inch compliant wheel spinning intake
Evaluate your ideas
Now that you've brainstormed some ideas you're interested in exploring, you're going to converge on one idea to explore for this project. List the ideas you came up with above in the first column below and determine if each idea meets specific criteria: - useful: does it solve a real problem? - skill-aligned: are there Sora skills that could be applied to this idea? - feasible: is the idea doable within the timeframe? - appealing: is the idea something you're really curious about?
Ideas | useful | skill-aligned | feasible | appealing |
---|---|---|---|---|
idea 1 | yes | idk | yes | yes |
idea 2 | yes | idk | yes | no |
idea 3 | yes | idk | yes | yes |
Final Idea
Write below the idea that meets the most criteria above (has the most green yes marks) and that will be the idea you will focus on for the rest of this project cycle.
Write your final idea here.
I don't really have much of an "idea" per se, but my project is going to consist of me designing the various subsystems for my robotics team's robot this season.
Guiding Question or Challenge Statement
What is the one question which will guide this process of discovery and work? Or, what challenge will you be attempting to complete? For example: How does rock music effect the brain?
I need to create the subsystems for my competition robot.
Why do I care?
You have a limited amount of time on the worldβwhy is investigating this project worth the effort given your current goals? For example: I am interested in neuroscience and I am curious about how music can affect the brain and its function.
I would like to see my team succeed, and our first competition is very soon.
List 4 things you'd like to learn or be able to do by the end of this project.
Most projects can cover a wide variety of science and humanities topics. Identify 4 skills and if you have questions about which Sora Skills they relate to come to Office Hours.
- Have a robot that can launch foam discs into at least one of the 3 goals required
- Have a robot that can quickly collect discs from the field floor
- Have a more clear understanding of how to proceed with my designs going forward
- How flywheels work and if there are things I need to account for.
What goals and deadlines do you need to set for yourself to get the work product done on time?
List the milestones that need to happen for your work product to be complete by the drop dead date (in Canvas). What dates do you need these milestones completed to hold yourself accountable?
Milestone | Date | Files |
---|---|---|
Have the CAD complete enough to order parts | October 21, 2020 | |
Have parts ordered | October 21, 2020 | |
Have bot constructed and tested | October 27, 2020 | |
Final Product + Project Pages | October 27, 2020 |
