Checkpoint 1:
Generate at least 3 project ideas
List 3 topics you're interested in exploring more deeply. You're going to be spending the next two weeks working on this project, so make it something you're curious about. For example: I want to understand how rock music affects the brain.
- I want to be able to be able to explain to the best of my ability both the history of European fortifications and the reasons why they were constructed as they were.
- How the ideal battlefield has changed over time (This project will focus primarily on European strategy and will do its best to explain any changes that are seen).
- How events have shaped the balance of power and influence between the church and the state.
Evaluate your ideas
Now that you've brainstormed some ideas you're interested in exploring, you're going to converge on one idea to explore for this project. List the ideas you came up with above in the first column below and determine if each idea meets specific criteria: - useful: does it solve a real problem? - skill-aligned: are there Sora skills that could be applied to this idea? - feasible: is the idea doable within the timeframe? - appealing: is the idea something you're really curious about?
Ideas | useful | skill-aligned | feasible | appealing |
---|---|---|---|---|
idea 1 | no | yes | yes | yes |
idea 2 | no | yes | yes | yes |
idea 3 | no | yes | yes | yes |
Final Idea
Write below the idea that meets the most criteria above (has the most green yes marks) and that will be the idea you will focus on for the rest of this project cycle.
This cycle I will be working on a medium length paper which will consist of both background information on the events that are listed as well as their overall impact on the influence held by the church and the state.
Guiding Question or Challenge Statement
What is the one question which will guide this process of discovery and work? Or, what challenge will you be attempting to complete? For example: How does rock music effect the brain?
How have some of the more famous events in history affected the power that is help by secular and non-secular organizations?
Why do I care?
You have a limited amount of time on the worldβwhy is investigating this project worth the effort given your current goals? For example: I am interested in neuroscience and I am curious about how music can affect the brain and its function.
It is an interesting topic by itself and will also be educational in the long run.
List 4 things you'd like to learn or be able to do by the end of this project.
Most projects can cover a wide variety of science and humanities topics. Identify 4 skills and if you have questions about which Sora Skills they relate to come to Office Hours.
- This project will primarily encompass a variety of Social Studies Skills related to European History, especially those skills pertaining to religion and governance.
- This project will involve several skills regarding the ability to write in a concise manner and to be able to get my point across in an informative manner without taking a large amount of space.
- I plan to be able to think critically about any information I get a hold of due to the fact that religion is far from an uncontroversial topic, so much of the information may well be biased.
- I also plan to use some sort of life skill in order to be able to get my goals accomplished in the given time.
What goals and deadlines do you need to set for yourself to get the work product done on time?
List the milestones that need to happen for your work product to be complete by the drop dead date (in Canvas). What dates do you need these milestones completed to hold yourself accountable?
Milestone | Date | Files |
---|---|---|
Have a basic outline of both the events that are to be spoken about and the rough format this paper will take. I also plan to have a rough introduction paragraph done by this point as well. | October 16, 2020 | |
Have research completed and a first draft sketched out, this stage is meant to find any information that is not needed, and to fill any gaps that are present. | October 23, 2020 | |
Have a functional Final Draft | October 26, 2020 | |
Final Product + Project Pages | October 27, 2020 |
